Transcranial Doppler Examination

Case Study: Intracranial Collateral Pathways

Participants who successfully complete the course will be able to:

    1. Recognize the major risk factors associated with severe carotid artery disease,
    2. Examine the taped case presentation and recognize abnormal findings,
    3. Understand how transcranial Doppler carotid signals can provide information regarding collateral flow patterns,
    4. Understand how the presence of intracranial collateralization implies hemodynamically significant extracranial disease, and,
    5. Understand the capabilities and limitations of the transcranial Doppler exam regarding collateral pathways.

A 10 question exam and evaluation form completes the course. (Grade of 70% is required to receive CME credit)
